First Full Week on Sunset Lake

  • With our first full week under our belt, this past seven days have been filled with adventures, “ruach”, special guests and lots of memories. Everywhere we look around camp we see campers having fun, learning new things and being led by counselors who support and encourage them.

DSC_0895Our first Shabbat together was filled with relaxing moments, energizing rikud (Israeli dance) sessions and a fantastic Shabbat meal. Latkes and chicken soup are always a crowd-pleaser! Following Havdallah on the beach, our community changed from our Shabbat blue and white clothes into tutus, masks and colorful costumes as we prepared for a camp favorite…MTV night! The performances were incredibly well-rehearsed and so entertaining. We love seeing all of our campers, from the youngest girls to our oldest guys, on stage sharing their spirit with the rest of camp! It was a perfect ending to our first Shabbat of the 2016 season.

All week long, campers participated in daily activities including windsurfing, fitness, ceramics and so much more. Our new ukelele elective has been a huge success and has been amazing to watch the campers progress in such a short time. Sunday night’s evening activity provided each bunk the opportunity to plan and participate in a bunk activity of their choice. From camp-wide scavenger hunts, to dance parties on the beach and movie night at the pool, everyone had a blast spending a special night with their closest friends and counselors. My personal favorite was bunk 9’s spa night where I was lucky enough to get my nails and hair done…they spoiled me!

usaThe 4th of July started as a regular day but quickly turned into an all-camp competition where campers were split into three groups, red, white and blue, and proudly represented their teams in various relays and competitions throughout the day. The fun continued into the evening with a 4th of July luau on the beach…with sno-cones and tons of games. Fireworks and sparklers ended the night, as the sun set on another day in our paradise.

gamedayOur kids had a great time at the annual CTN Water Carnival. The event was a combination of swimming and boating events — our campers made us proud and it was great to see our friends from the other camps. We also participated in an Olim/Olot Jamboree at Camp Young Judea. This new event got our youngest campers involved in a fun day of gaga, kickball and dodge ball. We didn’t want the fun to stop, so our kids are participating in a Game Day with CYJ as we speak! I can hear the cheers across camp and Bog softball is up!

After an exhausting, but fun day of competition and traveling, we decided our campers were deserving of a sweet treat and some down time. After Kona Ice for evening snack our campers headed to various places around camp for a movie night for some much needed downtime before….TRIP NIGHT!!

fishercatsWe revealed to our campers on Thursday during lunch that they were heading out for the evening. Bogs and Tsofs went to the Fishercats game in Manchester and our Oles enjoyed an awesome night at Fun World. Our campers returned to camp happy and tired, and got enjoy a late wake-up this morning and breakfast with their bunk.

An afternoon of activities will soon be followed by our second Shabbat together. The opportunity to reset also gives us the chance to reflect on a fantastic week spent with amazing people…and we can’t wait to do it all over again!

    Shabbat shalom,

    Your CTN Family
